ALTERNATIVE AND RENEWABLE ENERGY

British Columbia's environmental industry sector is made up of alternative and renewable energy companies, they employ about 18,000 people and generate $2.3 billion in revenue.

British Columbia is a recognized world centre for hydrogen and fuel cell technology.

  • British Columbia's Hydrogen Highway demonstrates hydrogen fuel cell vehicles, infrastructure and hydrogen technology
  • The province has the largest warehouse of bio-energy fuel sources in the world. This includes mountain pine beetle timber and over half of Canada's biomass electricity production capacity is located in British Columbia.
  • British Columbia has a wealth of clean energy source. Ninety per cent of our total electricity generation is already clean or renewable and we are looking to new resources, including wind, solar and tidal energy.
