Universities in BC

Universities in British Columbia offer many undergraduate and graduate programs. Universities here are divided into two categories, based on their specialization:

1. Research intensive universities focus on academic and professional programs at the Bachelor, Master and Ph.D. levels. British Columbia has an excellent track record for research and innovation at these institutions. Our universities consistently lead other Canadian provinces and territories in patents, start-up companies and licenses. One example is Simon Fraser University, which ranked fourth in the number of US patents issued per $1 million in 2008.

2. Special purpose teaching universities focus on applied postgraduate degrees, academic degrees, career and technical diplomas. These universities emphasize teaching and provide broad access to university programs throughout the province.
